Supporting programme

In addition to the specialist presentations, the XV IVG Congress in Graz will also offer a varied supporting programme. Further down on this page you will find more detailed information on the individual events as well as - from 15th April 2025 - the registration option, which will be activated in the form of an online form on this page (on 15 April 2025).

Please note that registration is only possible via the online process . For organisational reasons, individual registrations by email cannot be considered. Before registering for an excursion, you must log in using the grey box on the left. Please use the login details you selected during registration (for IVG membership or for congress registration).

Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening full of Styrian culture and hospitality! On Tuesday, 22 July 2025, the Old University in Graz (Hofgasse 14, 8010 Graz) will open its historic doors at 18:00 for a very special reception hosted by the Government of Styria. The evening promises to be a highlight for our international guests: Let yourself be enchanted by the rousing sounds of the Styrian harmonica and enjoy culinary delicacies from the region, including crispy fried chicken, savoury beetle beans and incomparable pumpkin seed oil. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to make new contacts in a convivial atmosphere and experience the diversity of Styria.

Please note that the Old University can only accommodate 300 guests. Secure your place and register from 15 April 2025 and by 4 July 2025 at the latest using the online form at the top of this page. You will then receive an invitation card with your conference documents, which must be shown upon entry. We look forward to welcoming you to this special event!

The mayor cordially invites you to experience a magical evening in the historic town hall of Graz! On 25 July 2025 from 17:30 to 19:30 , the doors of this impressive building(Hauptplatz 1, 8010 Graz) will open for an exclusive reception. Let yourself be carried away by the fascinating history of the building and enjoy an unrivalled view of the Schlossberg from a completely new perspective. Catering will also be provided: look forward to a warm buffet for all participants.

As capacity is limited to 120 guests, registration is required from 15 April 2025 (by 15 July 2025 at the latest) using the online form at the top of this page . Secure your place for this special event and look forward to an inspiring evening in the heart of Graz!

On 23 July 2025 from 18:00, the Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Prize will be awarded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in the auditorium of the University of Graz. This award recognises outstanding academics who excel in the fields of German literature and linguistics, German as a foreign language and German studies. It honours individuals who have made a significant contribution to international academic cooperation and cultural understanding through their teaching and research activities abroad.

Please note that registration for the Grimm Prize is currently suspended and will be reactivated shortly. The registrations of all those who have already registered remain open!

Graz Tourismus and Stadtmarketing cordially invite you to go on a voyage of discovery during the IVG Congress and explore the enchanting surroundings of Graz in all four directions! Each adventure offers you unique insights and experiences that you should not miss. Further details on the individual excursions can be found in the PDF documents linked below. Please also note the cancellation conditions at the bottom of this page.

As the number of participants per excursion is limited to 50 people, we recommend that you register early for your preferred tour from 15 April 2025 (by 10 June 2025 at the latest) using the online form at the top of this page. A menu selection must be made at the same time as the registration. For the NORTH and EAST excursions, please send us your menu selection promptly by e-mail (ivg2025@uni-graz.at); for the SOUTH and WEST excursions, you can make your menu selection directly when registering online.

Don't be sad: If all places are taken, you have the option of being placed on the waiting list (also via the online form below).

Excursion NORTH (Admont Abbey, Rein Abbey) - choice of menu (the cost of the 3-course menu is included in the excursion price shown)

ExcursionEAST (Eastern Styria, Zotter chocolate, Gölles vinegar) - choice of menu (consumptions are not included in the excursion price, payment directly on site in cash or by card)

Excursion SOUTH (Seggau Castle, oil mill, wine tavern)- choice of menu between a) Bretteljause1 + 1 glass of wine/grape juice or b) cheese platter + 1 glass of wine/grape juice. One of these options is included in the excursion price per person, for the cheese platter a surcharge of € 2.00 must be paid when booking.

Excursion WEST (Western Styria, Piber Federal Stud Farm, Hundertwasser Church) - choice of menu (the cost of the menu is included in the excursion price )

All excursions take place on the lecture-free Thursday (24.7.2025). More detailed information on departure time and place will be sent to the registered participants.

1ABrettljause is a traditional Austrian snack served on a wooden board. It consists of various cold dishes such as sausage, ham, cheese, spreads and pickled vegetables. It is often accompanied by bread or pastries.

Four exclusive groups of 25 participants each will have the opportunity to explore the hidden treasures and impressive sights of this charming city. Two of these tours are generously supported by Graz Tourismus and Stadtmarketing, while the IVG funds the other two groups, so this activity is free of charge for you.

You have the choice of either a a classic city tour (Group 1 and Group 2) with the highlights of Graz's historic city centre or a city tour "for connoisseurs" (Group 3 and Group 4) . The costs for the guides are covered by the City of Graz/the IVG.

All groups will be released after the end of the city tour in the city centre near the Murinsel .

Discover our collections in two exclusive, deliberately small groups of just 20 participants each! You will have the opportunity to marvel at the premises of Graz University Library (groups 1 and 2) , Austria's most modern library within historic walls. You can also visit the library's unique special collections (groups 3 and 4), where you will be enchanted by the beauty and historical value of manuscripts, papyri, bequests and bequests, incunabula, historical prints and maps. Discover Graz as the"capital of literature"! In the plenary lecture of the same name as part of the IVG Congress, Klaus Kastberger, Professor of Modern German Literature at the Franz Nabl Institute of the University of Graz and Director of the Literaturhaus, will offer you a unique insight into the Graz literary scene (Tuesday, 22 July 2025, Universitätsplatz 3a, Room 62.01). It is not necessary to register for the plenary lecture.


You can also experience the lively literary scene of our unique city in three exclusive evening events. Meet outstanding authors who characterise the literary heritage and creative atmosphere of Graz. For more information on the individual events, please see the programme. Registration for the readings will be activated in the coming weeks and can be done directly via the homepage of the Graz House of Literature.
